US Paralympics Sports Photography in Vail, CO

Paralympics Environmental Portraits in Vail, Colorado
Colorado Sports Photographer, Sean F Boggs
Hey Homies,
The last few days shooting the US Paralympic team has been a blast! I've been part of this event for 10+ years, and after missing out last year due to COVID, we were back and ready to party!!
Our studio shoot was a great way to capture the athletes. A controlled environment isn’t without challenges. Getting the lighting correct is where the magic happens. We had a 3-point lighting system and a “floating” flash (aka my assistant Angela) also a white backdrop to wash away any distraction from the athletes. The equipment I used on this shoot is a Nikon D850 body and an 80-200 f2.8 Nikon lens.
Meet the Athletes

Athlete: Brittani Coury f/2.8, shutter speed 1/250, ISO 50, with a flash

Athlete: Zach Miller f/4.5, shutter speed 1/80, ISO 100, with flash

Athlete: Thomas Walsh f/4.5, shutter speed 1/250, ISO 31, with a flash
This year we photographed five athletes competing in snowboarding, alpine skiing, and Nordic skiing. Everyone has a great story, and getting to know them individually is like building a family.
Here is a list of our Olympians:
Zach Miller (Snowboarding)
Joy Rondeau (Nordic Skiing)
Brittany Coury (Snowboarding)
Spencer Wood (Alpine Skiing)
Thomas Walsh (Alpine Skiing and Vail local)
Action photography brings a new definition to teamwork. Getting photos to look and feel like they are natural while flying down the hill is a challenge; regardless of getting the shot, we had a blast chasing these Olympians around Vail. Adaptive Spirit sponsors the event, and the fundraising goal is to help get these athletes sponsorships and look super cool while doing it, which isn’t difficult. Find out mountain environmental photos highlighted on the Adaptive Spirits website.
